United Airlines (UAL) has reported that consolidated traffic (revenue passenger miles) decreased 0.3 per cent in February, while consolidated capacity (available seat miles) fell 0.9 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier.
The carrier's February consolidated load factor rose 0.5 points year on year.
"The company's operations were significantly impacted by winter storms in February, and in total UAL cancelled more than 11,000 flights during the month. Weather-driven cancellations reduced year-over-year capacity by approximately three percentage points," a company statement posted by PRnewswire said.
United Airlines and United Express operate an average of 5,300 flights per day to 360 airports across six continents.
In 2013, United and United Express carried more passenger traffic than any other airline in the world and operated two million flights carrying 139 million customers.
United operates 700 mainline aircraft and, in 2014, will take delivery of 35 new Boeing aircraft and welcome the E175 aircraft to United Express, according to Shipping Gazette.
