UAE national carrier Etihad Airways cargo unit will expand its belly-hold capacity between Abu Dhabi and Chengdu, China by 930 tonnes per month, a 40 per cent increase, effective March, 30.
The airline will increase capacity on its daily Airbus A330 passenger service that runs five times a week. The increase is down to demand following last year's tonnage increase of 33 per cent to 73,000 tonnes of good flown to and from China, cited a report from Atlanta area Air Cargo World.
Etihad Airways hopes to meet demand for one of China's biggest markets for FDI in Chengdu, nearly half of the world's Fortune 500 companies have operations.
Its chief strategy and planning officer Kevin Knight said the services meet growing demand seen over the past 12 months and projected to continue into 2014. "Our additional services to Chengdu provide shippers with convenient, daily access to points all across our global network," he added.
