UAE flag carrier Etihad Airways cargo unit posted a record 52 per cent year-on-year growth 49,7000 tonnes in November, attributed to an expansion of new routes to China and India as well as in newer markets of Netherlands and the US, according to the Shipping Gazette.
"Strong demand in the final quarter improved utilisation in freighters, and in passenger bellyholds at our Abu Dhabi hub through Etihad Airport Services Cargo," said Etihad strategy and planning officer Kevin Knight.
The launch of IATA's Cargo-XML technology removed the requirement for Airway Bill during November, making Etihad the first freight carrier in the Gulf region to deploy the technology, reported Atlanta area Air Cargo World.
"The implementation of Cargo-XML follows close collaboration with Abu Dhabi Customs and other stakeholders, and marks a major step in establishing Abu Dhabi as an e-freight airport," Mr Knight said.
