Huntsville International Airport has experienced a 12.4 per cent year-on-year air cargo decline in November, reported the Huntsville Times, which provided no tonnage figures. Nor did the airport's website.
Wikipedia notes that 34 per cent of Huntsville airport operations were military in 2010 with 26 per cent air taxi, 24 per cent general aviation and 16 per cent were scheduled commercial operations, according to the Shipping Gazette.
Passenger traffic also declined by 9.1 per cent year on year in November to 84,169 people. During the first five months of fiscal 2014 ending June 30, passenger traffic decreased eight per cent below airport's budget projections.
Freight potential exists in the growth of the airport's Jetplex Industrial Park, with expansion by Huntsville business CDS-John Blue Company from its existing space within the complex.
Jetplex director Brooks Kracke said the local manufacture of liquid agricultural pumps and products for chemical application and irrigation use will double its existing 5,852-square-metre space at JIT building on 165 Electronics Boulevard by August 2014.
"They're going to make some modifications to that building and are going to have to add some extra office areas. It's going to blend nicely in with the current structure of the building," Mr Kracke said.
