Germany's Leipzig/Halle Airport saw cargo volumes rise 2.8 per cent between January and November 2013, compared to the same period a year earlier, to 813,802 tonnes.
The result puts the airport on track for achieving a new record in cargo volumes for the ninth year in a row, a statement from the airport operator said.
"With expected annual volumes of 880,000 tonnes, the airport is continuing to consolidate its position as one of the most important air cargo transshipment centres in Europe. This positive development makes me optimistic about the development of business in 2014 too," said CEO of Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding, Markus Kopp.
"The current figures once again underline the fact that Leipzig/Halle is the country's largest express freight hub and is the growth engine in the airport world in Germany."
Cargo flights operate from Leipzig/Halle Airport to 60 destinations in 30 countries. DHL has been operating its European hub at the airport since 2008, according to the Shipping Gazette.
