UTair Aviation is to establish a MRO base for Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft in Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan following a trilateral agreement with Bashkortostani government and the Sukhoi Company.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a regional jet in the 75- to 95-seat category. With development starting in 2000, the airliner was designed by the civil aircraft division of the Russian aerospace company Sukhoi in co-operation with Boeing.
Designed to compete with rivals An-148, Embraer and Bombardier, the Superjet 100 claims lower operating costs, at a lower purchase price of US$35 million.
The agreement was signed by the provincial president Rustem Khamitov of Bashkortostan, Sukhoi chairman Mikhail Pogosyan and UTair Aviation director general Andrey Martirosov.
Under the terms of the agreement, the government of the Republic will provide a hangar complex on the territory of the Ufa International Airport to UTair on a mutually beneficial basis. UTair will also be provided with airport aprons for Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft.
Sukhoi and UTair have planned to provide modern MRO infrastructure for Sukhoi Superjet 100 maintenance. The base will begin operations in the second half of 2014, in time to provide support for Sukhoi aircraft in the UTair fleet.
