Lufthansa cuts cockpit paperwork, flies with 'Electronic Flight Bag'

2012-12-18

Lufthansa Systems has announced that its airline pilots will be using its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) software, providing continual access to updated electronic navigation charts, technical log books and operating manuals.
The EFB reduces paper on board and saves weight while also cutting printing and logistics costs. The nearly paperless cockpit is therefore an important step towards efficient, environmentally conscious flight operations, said the company.
"We provide Lufthansa pilots with an innovative tool which enables them to access up-to-date information even more quickly and flexibly," said Lufthansa Systems vice president Claus Rohde.
Lufthansa Systems provides consulting and IT services for selected industries, said the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. In 2011, Lufthansa Systems posted revenues of EUR599 million (US$783 million).
