Boeing close to completing new B 747-8

Boeing has completed another milestone in the assembly of its first B747-8 freighter by joining the wing to the fuselage.

Mo Yahyavi, VP and general manager of the B747 programme, said: "The airplane is coming together well and will be ready to fly later this year as planned."

The first deliveries are expected in the third quarter of 2010.

The company has secured 78 orders from cargo operators for the new B747-8 freighter from Cargolux, Nippon Cargo Airlines, AirBridgeCargo Airlines, Atlas Air, Cathay Pacific, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, Emirates SkyCargo, Guggenheim and Korean Air.
