Dubai: Sama airlines, the Saudi-based budget carrier, began its international charter service yesterday with flights to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi and said it would push for quicker regulatory approval to start commercial international flights.
The airline is one of two budget carrier startups that began this year under a liberalisation programme from the Saudi government.
Under the terms of the licence Sama is required to fly 20 "public service obligation" (PSO) routes within the Kingdom, and is also expected to fly for 18 months as a domestic-only carrier before being allowed to launch international routes. |
