MIDEX, the UAE¡¯s first privately owned cargo airline, has signed a multi-million dollar deal for a B747-200F from Martinair and will launch operations by the end of the year.

Destinations will include Mumbai, Kochi, Orly (France), Dhaka, Istanbul and Beirut. "We will operate scheduled flights daily to all six destinations with cargo initially," said Issam Khairallah, president, Midex Airlines.

The B747 freighter will be added to Midex¡¯s existing fleet of six Airbus A300B4s.

"We will be United Arab Emirate's first dedicated cargo airline and the largest cargo operator in the Middle East with a privately owned fleet," he said during the Dubai Air Show.

The cargo carrier will have scheduled daily flights out of Al Ain Airport, which will act as the airline's hub airport.

The new airline will start passenger operations at a later date.
