NYK Line strengthens safety measures for shipping dangerous goods

NYK Line, a provider of global logistics, land, ocean and air transportation services, recently hosted a series of conferences in Shanghai and Tokyo about safety measures when shipping dangerous goods.

The conferences aimed to deepen knowledge about handling of dangerous goods and chemicals in order to prevent shipping accidents that occur as a result false declarations.

The NYK Container Trade Management Group began a Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Sea Campaign in September 2006 in response to an anticipated increase of fires caused by dangerous goods and chemicals. With increased volume of containerized cargo (particularly cargo shipped from Asia) and the increased size of containerships, companies are increasingly concerned with safety precautions.

The campaign encourages strengthening measures to prevent shipments of dangerous goods that have been falsely declared. Specific activities include:

Introducinganon-linee-learningprogram2forthe handling of dangerous goods
Establishingadangerousgoods help desk to cover booking offices around the world.
