Interview with Shanghai World-Service International Logistics Co.
POSTED: 2:29 p.m. EDT, July 30,2007

Introduction:
Xujing is the founder of Shanghai World-Service International Logistics Co., Ltd. which is the biggest success for her after working in logistics industry for more than ten years. We made the appointment quickly when I called her and during the interview, she introduced her working experience and the history of Shanghai World-Service International Logistics Co., Ltd. with confidence and a friendly tone, which impressed me deeply.

Interview:
Journalist: How about the beginning of Shanghai World-Service International Logistics Co.?

Ms. Xu: I met lots of difficulties, such as brain drain, resignation of workers, and lack of investment. Every frustration, to me, was fatal, but I overcame them and in this process, my company is going stronger and stronger. I believe that I will be success one day as long as I do not give up.
Journalist: During busy seasons, cancellations of the confirmed vessel space occur frequently. What is your attitude toward that? And how do you resolve the problems when you run into this matter?
Ms. Xu: Cancellations of the confirmed vessel occur always because of the imbalance of supply and demand. As freight forwarders, we have to prepare for this matter ahead of time during busy seasons. However, it is also important to make proper arrangement and plans at ordinary time. As to VIP customers, we will confirm their vessels be shipped even during busy seasons because of the kind relation we established with shipping companies and the dedication of our workers.

Journalist: Refunding export taxes can affect shipping obviously. Facing the change of policy, such as the adjustment of goods¡¯ refunding export taxes approved by State Council in June, how do you deal with this matter?

Ms. Xu: Refunding export taxes have direct effects on manufactories, and the trade of manufactories will affect shipping. However, judging from long term, the total demand of market will not change too much. At the same time, we will strengthen our cooperation with customers and reduce the cost to solve the problems brought by the change of refunding export taxes.

Journalist: After overcoming so many problems in the past three years, what makes you feel most proud when you see your company going prosperous?

Ms. Xu: Whenever we celebrate the anniversary of our company, I feel proud and I am so happy that my workers love our company and treat our customers kindly. At the beginning, there were only five people, but now there are nearly forty workers and several branch offices in other cities. All the success can no be separated from their efforts.

Journalist: With all your workers¡¯ efforts, how do you plan the future of your company?

Ms. Xu: We try to establish a branch in Hong Kong, and then expand our business in Europe and America. I hope Shanghai World-Service International Logistics Co. will rank within 100 top logistics companies by ten years. It is not easy I know, but my staff and I will keep on trying until the dream comes true.

Journalist: So what are your advantages that can make you achieve the target?

Ms. Xu: Although we do not have so rich resources as state-owned companies, we can remedy our defects flexibly. That is our characteristic service. It is not a world in which big companies can gobble small ones. Instead, winners are those who can seize opportunities in time and make decisions fast according to the changing market. Our greatest advantage is what our ideology says, ¡°developing, forging, and creating value with professional service¡±. Most of our customers are direct ones from foreign-invested enterprises. Our characteristic service such as the risk controls measure is appreciated by them, especially by English companies.

Journalist: So you have more business with England, right?

Ms. Xu: Yes. We provide service to English companies more. They are strict to their management and have especially advanced Health Safety and Environment Management System, which also helps us to improve our management levels.

Journalist: Providing service to those companies, you must have high requirements to your employees.

Ms. Xu: Yes. My employees have to own high record of education, enough experience, and can provide professional service to customers. Besides, we also have complete Key Performance Indication. Now, my employees make up a professional and high quality group. I think they will be more and more competitive in the future.

Journalist: During the past three years of your company¡¯s growth, there must be some success stories; can you take one for example?

Ms. Xu: At the beginning period of Shanghai World-Service International Logistics Co., Ltd., there is one concept: service, credit, benefit. We asked all our workers to remember the concept and win customers by our service. There is an example. We have a customer who is an importer and exporter. Once, he purchased goods in China and then exported them to Europe. This involved lots of aspects in logistics and required high quality service. As the result, we established a group specially to make a proper logistics process and provide service for him. The group paid attention to every detail and solved his problems even if it would take their holidays and rest time. At last, we made a long-term cooperation with the customer and both of us were benefit from the cooperation.

Journalist: With more than ten years experience in logistics industry, in your opinion, what have newly found freight forwarding companies to do when facing with the challenges in such a world full of competition?

Ms. Xu: Freight forwarding connects closely with micro economy and has wide space to develop with the stable economy. For those new established freight forwarding companies, it is necessary for them to set up awareness of service and cooperation, and accumulate experience. Besides, they also have to give full play to their advantages in order to provide all-round, and point to point services to customers.

Journalist: How do you think about logistics online? What are the advantages of logistics online compared with traditional one, and where does the logistics online need to be improved?

Ms. Xu: Logistics online still has a long way to go and because of the imbalance of logistics industry, logistics online has some disadvantages. The greatest one is lack of authority to control it. Take the e-business for example. You can go shopping on internet, but most customers buy expensive things by traditional way. On the platform of logistics online, it is lack of authority to protect large trade. However, compared with traditional logistics, logistics online is more convenient for people to share information, and makes the distance no longer a problem.

Journalist: Is it one reason why you choose to cooperate with jctrans.net?

Ms. Xu: Yes. I noticed the introduction of jctrans.net when I red logistic magazine at spare time. I expect that through our cooperation, we can boost the communication and cooperation between freight forwarders, accelerate the development of logistics industry, and provide better service to our customer. I also believe that jctrans.net will become a platform for freight forwarders to share information, provide service to customers and satisfied their own needs.
