Members of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) share common interest in a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said on Tuesday.

China has always maintained that the nuclear issue should be solved through dialogue and consultation in order to maintain the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula, Jiang told a regular press conference.

The spokeswoman said that China wanted to work with other relevant parties to ease the current tension and secure an early resumption of the six-party talks.

The last round of the talks, involving China, the DPRK, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan, ended with a chairman's statement last November, in which the parties agreed to resume talks as soon as possible.

China will submit a report on its implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1718 on the DPRK nuclear issue, said Jiang.

The 14th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is to be held in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi from November 17 to 19, following the 18th Joint Ministerial Meeting which is slated for November 15 to 16.

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing is scheduled to meet his counterparts from Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Canada on November 16 and the United States, Russia, the ROK and Peru on November 17, according to Jiang.
