POSTED: 9:52 a.m. EDT, September 3,2007

Bangladesh has earned 35 billion taka (about 500 million U.S. dollars) by exporting frozen food during last fiscal year (July 2006 - June 2007), breaking all previous records.

In 2005-06 fiscal year, the country had earned 30 million taka (about 428.6 million U.S. dollars) from the sector, private news agency UNB reported Sunday.

President of Bangladesh Frozen Food Exporters' Association ( BFFEA) Kazi Belayet said this while addressing a view exchange meeting on development of shrimp industry Sunday in Khulna, 140 km southwest of capital Dhaka.

According to BFFEA, there were some 130 export-oriented fish processing factories in the country and at present prawns are cultivated on 140,000 hectares while lobsters on 30,000 hectares of land.

Most of frozen food are exported to some 40 foreign countries, including UK, U.S.A., Canada and Japan.
