BRUSSELS (Xinhua) -- The eurozone retail trade picked up by 0.4 percent in June, compared to the previous month, the European Union's statistics bureau Eurostat said on Friday.
Year on year, the volume of retail trade grew by 0.9 percent in the 13-nation bloc sharing the same currency euro.
The index dipped by 0.7 percent month on month and increased by 0.1 percent year on year in May, according to revised figures from the Eurostat.
In June, retail trade of "food, drinks and tobacco" remained unchanged on the monthly basis in the eurozone, while the non-food sector rose by 0.8 percent.
Compared to June 2006, retail trade of "food, drinks and tobacco" fell by 0.4 percent, and the non-food sector increased by 2.1 percent.
The retail trade index in Germany, the largest economy in the eurozone, gained 0.7 percent compared to the previous month and dropped by 2.5 percent compared with the same period of last year.
In the 27-nation EU, the volume of retail trade in June rose by 0.5 percent on the monthly basis and by 2.2 percent yearly.
