The Austrian Airline (AUA) suspended its flights to the northern Iraqi city of Erbil due to security reasons, the Austrian Press Agency (APA) reported on Sunday.
The AUA decision came after Sweden suspended all of the Swedish Airline's flights to Iraq on Aug. 10, two days after a Swedish airliner was shot shortly after taking off from the northern Iraqi city of Sulaimaniya.
The last airliner from Erbil landed at Vienna international Airport at 19:00 (1800 GMT) on Aug. 24. The flight course between Vienna and Erbil, opened last December, contributed to the economic rebuilding in Iraq, said an AUA spokesman.
He stressed that the security of the passengers and aircrew should be given top priority, and the AUA would never take risk. He added that the AUA would wait and reevaluate the situation in Iraq, and resume the flight timely.
