Chinese mainland company makes a debut on Tokyo Stock Exchange
POSTED: 9:38 a.m. EDT, August 9,2007

China Boqi Environmental Solutions Technology (Holding) Co. was listed on Wednesday on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) and won strong demand which drove the stock to increase 61.2 percent on its debut.

It was the first company from China's mainland to be traded on the TSE's First Section and also the first company that hit the main section directly after being approved for public trading by the TSE.

Its initial public offering price was 160,000 yen. It remained bid-only in the morning session and fetched the first quotation of 276,000 yen early in the afternoon before ended at 258,000 yen.

Wu Jianghao, counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Japan, said at a ceremony that the listing opened a new page of economic communication between China and Japan and would turn to be a milestone marking the extension of bilateral cooperation into capital field.

TSE President Atsushi Saito expressed his hope that Boqi would bring along more Chinese enterprises to the largest bourse in Asia.

"In an era when people care more and more about the environment, the listing of Boqi will definitely catch attention," he added.

At the press conference held by Boqi later in the day, Bai Yunfeng, president and CEO of the company, described the listing as "historic" and a "new start" of his company.

"We hope the listing will help us open a channel for exchanges with Japanese companies having advanced technologies," Bai said.

He also told Japanese reporters that the rising of environmental awareness of the Chinese government and the Chinese people is providing "great development opportunity" for environment protection enterprises.

The company, with most of its business in China, is engaged in planning and building smoke elimination systems for coal-fired thermal power plants.
