U.S. stocks rise as Fed keeps interest rate unchanged
POSTED: 9:11 a.m. EDT, August 8,2007

U.S. stocks rallied the second day on Tuesday ahead of Fed meeting, after Federal Reserve decided to leave a key interest rate unchanged.

In the closing trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up35.52, or 0.26 percent, to 13,504.30. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 9.04, or 0.62 percent, to 1,476.71, and the Nasdaq composite index added 14.27, or 0.56 percent, to 2,561.60.

The U.S. Federal Reserve decided Tuesday to leave a key interest rate unchanged at 5.25 percent, where it has stood for a year.

"The economy seems likely to continue to expand at a moderate pace over coming quarters, supported by solid growth in employment and incomes and a robust global economy," said the Fed in a statement.
