China bans import of breakdown-prone gas-turbo generators from GE
POSTED: 4:29 p.m. EDT, August 10,2007

Gas-turbo generating units manufactured by the U.S.-based GE and imported by a power supply company in south China's Guangdong Province have suffered another breakdown, the State Administration of Quality Inspection, Supervision and Quarantine said on Friday.

China has "banned the import of such gas-turbo generators, and will return or impose compensation claims on those already purchased," an official with the administration said.

He said that the gas turbines of PG9171E generating units imported by Shenzhen Baochang Power Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen of Guangdong broke down in May and caused damages to the generating units. In June last year, the generating units the company imported from GE also incurred a severe breakdown.

The administration said that the gas-turbo generating units have suffered breakdown for times, which incurred huge economic losses for the Chinese user and threatened local power supply.
