Vietnam to focus on 4 categories of exports to China
POSTED: 2:33 p.m. EDT, April 16,2007

Vietnam is boosting four categories of exports to China between 2007 and 2015, aiming to post export revenues of 7 billion U.S. dollars in 2015, local newspaper Vietnam News reported Monday.

Vietnam has planned to earn about 2.4 billion dollars in 2010 from exporting products in the first group, including footwear, electric cables, computers, electronic components, woodworks, coal and crude oil.

To this end, the country is encouraging local enterprises to set up joint ventures with Chinese partners to create goods distribution channels in China.

Vietnam is estimated to reap export revenues of about 2 billion dollars in 2010, from selling to China products in the second group, which includes latex, rice, cashew nuts, seafood, fruits and vegetables, tea, vegetable oil, and cassava.

Local firms would be required to build crop specialized areas and apply high-tech equipment to have better post-harvest processing and preservation, according to the Vietnamese Trade Ministry.

Vietnam has planned to export several new items in the third group, including bauxite, fruit juices, coffee, cosmetics, detergent, bonsai and lacquered products, to China in the coming years.

The country would earn 1.2-1.5 billion dollars in 2010 from shipping to China products in the fourth group, which are manufactured in Vietnam by foreign companies and then exported to China, including rubber-based goods, plastic, aluminum, high-grade paper, glass, synthesized fibers, and pharmaceuticals.

Trade between Vietnam and China increased to over 9.95 billion dollars in 2006 from 8.2 billion dollars in 2005, according to the Chinese Commercial Ministry.
