POSTED: 10:30 a.m. EDT, February 22,2007

Trade between Shanghai and Taiwan reached 25.8 billion U.S. dollars last year, a 20 percent growth year-on-year, according to Shanghai Customs.

Exports to Taiwan amounted to 7.7 billion U.S. dollars, while imports from Taiwan were 18.1 billion U.S. dollars, the Shanghai Customs statistics showed.

As one of the most favored cities on the Chinese mainland for Taiwan businessmen, Shanghai also attracts increasing investment from Taiwan.

The municipal government approved 517 Taiwanese-funded projects in 2006, whose contracted investment was 2.2 billion U.S. dollars.

By the end of 2006, Shanghai's contracted investment from Taiwan had reached 16.4 billion U.S. dollars, involving more than 6,300 projects.
