Chinese car to debut on Chilean market
POSTED: 10:37 a.m. EDT, January 28,2007

The Hover, a car made by China's Great Wall Motor Company, will make its debut on the Chilean market on Feb. 1, officials from the car's distributing company DERCO said on Wednesday.

An all-terrain vehicle, the Hover has five seats, five doors, large interior space, air-conditioning, Mp3, radio and CD player, central locks, remote control locks, double airbag and ABS brakes, among other features.

The car will be sold at about 10-11 million pesos (about 16,000U.S. dollars) and is designed to compete against cars in the same category but with higher prices.

DERCO general manager Ramiro Urenda told Xinhua on Wednesday that the Hover will "open a market for people who have not been able to afford a car in this category, mainly because of price."

The Hover has been subjected to six-month trials in Chile. In neighboring Peru, it has been sold for four months and has become one of the most successful models in DERCO market there.

DERCO plans to sell about 1,000 Hovers during 2007 in Chile and will launch some other products in 2008, such as vans and medium-sized cars.

Great Wall Motor Company Limited, a privately-owned auto manufacture in China, is located in Baoding, about 150 km south of Beijing. The company is present in more than 50 countries, including Venezuela, Peru and Uruguay.
