China's Geely doubles car export target for 2007
POSTED: 9:06 a.m. EDT, January 14,2007

China's domestic carmaker Geely Group has announced that it will strive to export 33,000 cars this year.

Group president Li Shufu said the target was more than double the 15,000 cars it exported in 2006.

Last year, the group sold a total of 204,000 cars and posted 9 billion yuan (1.15 billion U.S. dollars) in sales revenue.

He said Geely planned to sell 296,000 cars in 2007.

He added the sales target for 2015 was two million vehicles, and two thirds of them will be exported.

He said the company has decided to replace its ten-year-old logo with a more international logo in a bid to win more overseas market share.

The company welcomes designs from around the world and will reward the winner with a prize of 3.6 million yuan (461,500 U.S. dollars), according to the company's website.

Li acknowledged that in order to hit the target, the car producer will build joint ventures with foreign peers in America and Europe.

Geely, based in the scenic city of Hangzhou, has exported a total of 300,000 cars to more than 40 countries worldwide and has 26 overseas dealers.

The privately-owned carmaker, which develops and produces its own models, was the 10th largest automaker in China last year in terms of car sales.
