China's trade union leader, Wang Zhaoguo, met with leaders of international and foreign trade unions here on Sunday, calling for them to expand exchanges and contribute to the harmonious development of international trade union movement.
The foreign guests are here for the International Forum on Economic Globalization and Trade Unions (IFEGTU) 2006, which is to open on Monday.
Wang, president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, said peace, development, cooperation and workers' interests remained the theme of the international trade union movement.
Wang, also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's legislature, called for trade unions to make joint efforts to set up a harmonious, reasonable and just order for the international trade union movement.
Chinese trade unions were willing to deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation with foreign and international counterparts, and make joint efforts to promote harmonious development of the movement, he said.
Representatives of foreign trade unions pledged to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese unions so as to achieve common development.
Forty foreign trade union leaders from about 20 foreign trade unions and international organizations will attend the forum.
