The Navy Command of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday accused South Korea of intruding into it's sea border in the West Sea (the Yellow Sea) frequently, warning that such actions will lead to a new skirmish.
"The intrusion of South Korean naval warships into the waters of the DPRK has escalated since early in May," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted a statement issued by the DPRK Navy Command as saying.
The number of its cases reached 7-8 on a daily average, 36 at maximum in mid-June, said the statement.
Such reckless intrusion that has got unabated may become a dangerous fuse to spark off the third skirmish in the West Sea, the statement said, adding that furthermore, a bigger war going beyond the skirmish.
The navies of the two countries once went into two clashes in 1999 and 2002 as to the waters of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the Yellow Sea, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides.
The NLL was not clearly demarcated when the Korean War ended in 1953. The U.S.-led UN Command unilaterally delineated the NLL, but the DPRK has never recognized it.
