Fatah movement central committee decided on Tuesday night to suspend its participation in the national unity coalition with Hamas movement until Gaza infighting ends, an official statement said.

The statement which was sent to reporters said the emergency meeting was chaired by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah, and was attended by Fatah movement's central committee members.

It was not clear if Fatah movement decided to withdraw completely from the national coalition, but what the statement had explained is that it is suspending its participation in the government until infighting in the Gaza Strip stops.

Leaders of rival Fatah and Islamic Hamas movements reached in February 8 in Saudi Arabian holy town of Mecca an agreement to form a national unity government.

The Palestinian national unity government was shared between Fatah, Hamas, and independents loyal to the two movements and also members in other factions represented in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC).

According to Mecca agreement, Hamas got 12 portfolios plus the Prime Minister post, Fatah got 6 portfolios and 5 independents, 3chosen by Hamas and 2 chosen by Fatah, and four portfolios were given to other factions.

The national unity government was formed in the first week of March, and it was headed by Prime Minister Ismail Haneya.

The Fatah central committee meeting lasted for three hours. Its decision was to suspend its participation until the infighting between rival Hamas and Fatah militants' stops.

The central committee called on its members in the Palestinian territories to "foil a coup attempt carried out by a violent group of Hamas militants against the Palestinian Authority and its security apparatuses."

Fighting between Fatah and Hamas in Gaza Strip had intensified since last Thursday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chief of Emergency in the Palestinian Health Ministry Mo'aweya Hassanein said since the eruption of clashes between rival Fatah and Hamas movements' militants, 43Palestinians were killed and 80 wounded all over the Gaza Strip.

Hassanein told reporters that 21 Palestinians were killed only on Tuesday night during fierce gunbattles east of Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza Strip, adding that 60 were wounded.
