Top political advisor meets Fujian commerce delegation
POSTED: 9:27 a.m. EDT, May 31,2007
China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Wednesday received a delegation of the Fujian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong Branch and encouraged them to contribute more to the prosperity of the self-administrative region.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), extended his congratulations on the 90th anniversary of the commerce group, comprised of business people from east China's Fujian Province working in Hong Kong.

"The central government will continue to strengthen the economic and trade relationship between the mainland and Hong Kong and strive to keep Hong Kong the status of international finance, trade and shipping hub," Jia said.

The political advisor encouraged the delegation to continue to follow the policy of "One Country, Two Systems" and the Basic Law of Hong Kong, carry forward the patriotic tradition, and unite people of Fujian origin in Hong Kong to contribute to the Hong Kong's stability and prosperity.

The Fujian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong Branch was set up in Hong Kong in 1917 when the island was ruled by the British colonist.
