Hamas insists on full, mutual cease-fire with Israel
POSTED: 9:00 a.m. EDT, May 28,2007
A spokesman for the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) armed wing said Sunday that any cease-fire agreement to be reached with Israel should include both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Abu Obeida, al-Qassam Brigades spokesman in Gaza said in a written statement sent to reporters that his movement rejects any free truce or cease-fire deal with Israel.

"Hamas movement rejects a free cease-fire deal with the enemy and insists to continue armed resistance until the enemy stops its aggression on our people," said Abu Obeida.

He announced that Hamas armed wing attacks against Israel would continue, adding "a cease-fire deal is conditioned. The enemy should stop its military aggression in the West Bank and Gaza for ending Hamas attacks."

Earlier Sunday, Hamas armed wing claimed responsibility for firing several homemade Qassam rockets at southern Israel, in which one Israeli was killed and another wounded in the southern Israeli town of Sderot.

In addition, Fatah movement's armed wing al-Aqsa Martyrs brigades said in a leaflet that it declared a status of mobilization in the Palestinian territories "to respond to the ongoing Israeli crimes against our people."

"There will be no cease-fire at all unless the Palestinians receive international guarantees that Israel would stop its military aggression on our people all over the West Bank and the Gaza Strip," said the leaflet.

Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his cabinet that met earlier Sunday rejected Hamas and other militant groups' conditions to include the West Bank in any cease-fire agreement.

The Israeli cabinet has decided to increase air strikes on Hamas bases and compounds on the Gaza Strip to pressure it to accept a cease-fire in Gaza and stop launching homemade rockets from Gaza at Israel.
