China to support business investment in Caribbean region
POSTED: 0:03 p.m. EDT, September 8,2007

Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi said Friday the government will offer 4 billion yuan of low-interest loans in the next three years to Chinese firms to encourage them investing in Caribbean countries.

Wu made the remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of the 2nd China-Caribbean trade and economic cooperation forum held in Xiamen, a coastal city in east China's Fujian Province.

"China is ready to deepen the economic and trade cooperation with Caribbean countries as it attaches great importance to their friendship and cooperation," she said.

"China will help Caribbean countries train 2,000 government officials and various technical professionals within the next three years," the vice-premier announced.

Wu pledged China will broaden technical exchanges and deepen cooperation in agriculture and fishery, and implement tourism agreements to encourage more Chinese citizens to visit Caribbean countries.

"The Chinese government will also work to improve bilateral trade conditions and promote trade balance."

Wu said relationships between China and the Caribbean countries have been further strengthened since 2003.

She said China is willing to normalize the relations as early as possible with Caribbean countries that have not established diplomatic relations with China, based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence.
