Chinese, ROK legislatures pledge further exchanges
POSTED: 10:16 a.m. EDT, July 7,2007
The top legislatures of China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Friday pledged to further their exchanges in a bid to boost neighborly cooperation.

"The establishment of exchange mechanism has provided an effective platform for closer contacts and communications between the two parliaments," said Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo While meeting with ROK National Assembly Speaker Iim Chae Jung.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), expressed the hope that the parliamentary exchanges could add energy to cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

The NPC and ROK National Assembly launched a regular exchange mechanism in January 2006, and held the first and second meetings last September and in this April respectively.

Wu said to boost relations between China and the ROK complies with the interests of the two peoples and benefits peace, stability and development in the region.

Besides sound cooperation in politics, trade and culture, the two countries have maintained close coordination in international and regional affairs like the Korean nuclear issue and regional cooperation, said Wu.

"China will work with the ROK to enhance pragmatic cooperation and push forward bilateral all-round partnership in a stable and deep manner," Wu added.

Iim Chae Jung lauded bilateral ties, and attributed China's rapid development to the success of its socialist market economy.

The ROK National Assembly will play its due role in boosting result-oriented cooperation between the two countries.
