Lucky miners in southwest China coal mine leave hospital
POSTED: 1:56 p.m. EDT, April 25,2007

Eight miners trapped for over 24 hours in a mine in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality have all been discharged from hospital after three days treatment and have returned home, according to the local government.

About 1:10 pm Friday, the eight workers were carrying timber to the pit of Shamugou coal mine in Sanyi township, Pengshui county when the roof of the shaft collapsed and buried them underground.

By Saturday evening all eight workers had been rescued from the pit and taken to hospital.

Doctors, saying they have all now recovered, discharged them yesterday afternoon.

The coal mine is government-approved with a production capacity of 30,000 tons a year.

On the same day, north China's Hebei Province reported two deadly coal mine accidents which killed 22 miners and left six others missing.
