China, Japan agree on ways to build strategic, mutually beneficial ties

China and Japan on Wednesday vowed to build strategic, mutually beneficial relationship so as to realize the goals of peaceful co-existence, long-lasting friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development.

In a joint press communique issued after talks between visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, the two sides agreed to support each other's peaceful development, and increase political mutual trust.

Exchanges of high-level visits will be increased and contact and dialogue be strengthened between the governments, parliaments and parties of the two countries.

The two sides will strengthen cooperation in the sectors of energy, environmental protection, financing, telecommunications, and in the protection of intellectual property rights.

They will enhance defense dialogues in joint efforts to maintain regional stability, it said.

The two sides will boost cultural exchanges, strive to promote mutual understanding and foster the friendly feelings of the two peoples. Exchanges between youths, media, sister cities and non-governmental groups of the two countries will be encouraged.

The two sides agreed to strengthen coordination and cooperation on regional and international issues.

The two countries remain committed to a peaceful settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, it said.

In the communique, the two Asian countries also reaffirmed their commitment to the principles stated in the three political documents.

They voiced their determination to face up to history, look into the future, and jointly pave the way for a bright future for bilateral ties.
