Chinese shares opened higher on Friday. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opened at 2,964.09 points, up by 12.4 points, or 0.42 percent.

The index, which tracks both yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares traded on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, closed at 2,951.7 points on Thursday.
