French shipping giant CMA CGM has signed with Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) an agreement to develop, 50:50, a new common user container terminal at Mundra port, according to Shipping Gazette.
This will be the fourth box terminal at the port in India, and will measure 650 metres with 27 hectares of yard space capable of handling 1.3 million TEU annually.
Construction has already begun and the project is scheduled for completion within 24 months. The project comprises design and construction of 650 metres of jetty with a water depth of 16.5 metres, a company statement said.
The terminal will also initially have four units of 65 tonne capacity of rail mounted quay cranes capable of handling 18,000 TEU vessels. These cranes would be by far the largest in India.
The yard equipment will include twelve 41-tonne-lift, rubber-tyre gantry cranes to accommodate seven rows of containers and one operational lane.
Executive officer of CMA CGM Farid Salem said, "CMA CGM has strong ambitions in India. We have already a strong presence in India, through our 24 offices and our eight direct shipping services. We are convinced our partnership with Adani Ports will significantly reinforce this strategy."
