A threatened nationwide strike in Brazil has been postponed until Friday June 27 unless promised talks with the government produce nothing satisfactory for dockers, according to Shipping Gazette.
Inchcape Shipping Services Brazil (ISS Brazil), which has been monitoring the situation, confirmed that it had received word from the Union of Shipping Companies that the strike had been postponed.
The averted strike was to begin on June 10 and was expected to affect longshore operations at all Brazilian ports, delaying cargo handling.
An earlier strike plan by Brazil's National Federation of Stevedores at the end of May over hiring and pension practices was called off in favour of last minute talks with government ministers.
