Ports in northern China's Hebei province posted a 58.8 per cent year-on-year increase in overall container volume to 692,000 TEU in the first five months of the year, according to Hebei Provincial Port and Shipping Bureau.
From January to May, Qinhuangdao port in the province lifted 182,000 TEU, up 27.4 per cent. Tangshan recorded a throughput of 373,000 TEU, 65.3 per cent growth.
Huanghua's container throughput soared 103.6 per cent to 137,000 TEU.
Overall cargo volume in the same period handled by the ports increased 8.6 per cent year on year to 390 million tonnes, reports Xinhua.
Investment in the provincial ports in the five months reached CNY4.9 billion (US$784 million), accounting for 28 per cent of its annual target of CNY17 billion.
Construction of 13 projects in the province has been launched, with the operating rate reaching 50 per cent. Major projects such as the Huaneng Caofeidian Coal Terminal project, the phase 3 project of Caofeidian Coal Terminal, the number 36 to 40 coal berth projects in Jingtang port area of Tangshan port and the phase 4 of Huanghua port's coal port area are all under smooth construction.
