Seafarers under International Transport Workers Federation (ITF)-signatory shipowners are in for salary pay increases of one per cent in 2015, two per cent in 2016 and 3.5 per cent in 2017, reports Lloyd's List.
Following an agreement between the union and major employers in Indonesia, ITF signatory owners are now committed to the increase, but it also influences rates of pay throughout the industry.
Participants at the negotiations with the ITF included the International Maritime Employers' Council, the International Shipping Employers' Group the International Maritime Managers' Association of Japan and Taiwan's Evergreen - and the Korean Shipowners' Association.
The ITF represents the interests of transport workers' unions in bodies such as UN's International Labour Organisation (ILO), the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
