China's Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has posted a year-on-year 11 per cent first quarter net profit increase to CNY799.19 million ($127.91 million), drawn on revenues of CNY3.55 billion up 24 per cent, according to Shipping Gazette.
The shipyard has built up an outstanding orderbook until the end of 2016 valued at US$5.19 billion for 125 vessels.
Year-to-date, the shipbuilder has won newbuilding orders worth $1.07 billion for 26 ships, comprising of three 64,000 dwt dry bulk carriers, fourteen 82,000 dwt bulk carriers, three 208,000 dwt bulkers, two 1,100 TEU containerships, and four 10,000 TEUers, reports Seatrade Global.
It also has four outstanding options to construct 10,000 TEU boxships.
"The group will focus on perfecting the construction of 10,000 TEU containerships in the near term, and thereafter setting our sights on larger, more sophisticated vessels such as 14,000 TEU containerships and LPG vessels," said executive chairman Ren Yuanlin.
"Similarly, the group hopes that the jack-up rig will establish our capabilities in the offshore segment, and pave the way for future projects," he said.
Construction on its first jack-up rig order is progressing according to plan for delivery in mid-2015.
