Ports in southeastern China's Fujian province posted a seven per cent year-on-year increase in collective container throughput to 2.69 million TEU in the first quarter of the year, reports Xinhua.
Xiamen, the largest port in Fujian, lifted 1.86 million TEU, up 5.9 per cent year on year. And Fuzhou, the second largest port, experienced a 15.7 per cent throughput increase to 491,900 TEU.
In the same period, the aggregate throughput tonnage of all ports in Fujian amounted to 114 million tonnes, up 11.2 per cent from the same period last year.
Xiamen handled a total of 46.76 million tonnes of cargo, up eight per cent. Fuzhou's cargo volume also surged 20 per cent to 33.34 million tonnes.
