China posted a 5.2 per cent year-on-year increase in port and harbour container throughput in January to 16.56 million TEU with overall tonnage rising 4.3 per cent to 914 million tonnes, reports Xinhua.
Sea ports lifted 14.91 million TEU, up 5.3 per cent with overall tonnage coming in at 651 million tonnes, up 7.1 per cent. River port volume grew four per cent to 1.65 million TEU with overall tonnage coming to 262 million tonnes, which remained much the same year on year.
In January, trade cargo handled by ports increased 10.1 per cent to 317 million tonne with 292 million tonnes handled by sea ports, up 10.4 per cent while 24.59 million tonnes were handled by river ports, up 6.9 per cent.
