State-run China Shipping Container Lines Co Ltd (CSCL) has received its first 10,000-TEU containership from Dalian Shipbuilding Heavy Industries, Liaoning province.
The shipyard produced the vessel with independent intellectual property rights marking "a new leap in China's shipbuilding industry", said DSIC general manager Yu Fengping in a report from Beijing's China Daily.
The 10,000 TEU class containership has been monopolised by the bigger shipbuilders of the rest of the world.
It is one of a series of vessels that DSIC is working on to provide low energy consumption with an Energy Efficiency Design Index that meets carbon emissions standards due to come into force in 2025.
The Liaoning province-based shipyard has independently developed a number of vessels that have market demand for, said Mr Yu. These include the design of 14,000 TEU, 16,000 TEU, and 18,000 TEU vessels and the eco-friendly 319,000-ton VLCC with world-leading speed and fuel consumption indicators. It also independently developed DSJ300/350/400 type jack-up drilling platforms.
