Flat Rack Container Shipping Proves Economical For Forwarding Yachts as Freight

2012-10-10

UK-US-ITALY-Any experienced project freight forwarder knows how tricky the shipment of extremely valuable, yet vulnerable and hard to handle, private yachts can be but now specialist boat transporter Peters & May, in conjunction with Marine Invest, has signed an exclusive agreement securing the use of the patented and Veritas verified Flat Rail system in the UK, Italy and the US. This new system will allow Peters & May to ship yachts between 13 metres and 16.5 metres on a 40 foot container flat rack instead of the traditional method of shipment which can sometimes prove uneconomical for yachts in this size bracket.

This system has the added advantages of allowing the Southampton based company to ship to a wider range of destinations with a higher level of frequency together with financial savings that Peters & May can pass on to its clients.

The Flat Rail system loads out-of-gauge (OOG) cargo on a single container with specially-designed beams which are twist-locked to the flat rack container frame. Slings can then be connected to the spreader and the OOG cargo can be loaded onboard in, what the company claims can be in as little as fifteen minutes rather than the one hour which is more the norm.
