Charges at Chittagong to be cut

2009-10-22

The Bangladesh government is going to take necessary initiatives to withdraw the enhanced charges on different heads at Chittagong Port (CP) within this month to ensure unswerving business amid the global economic meltdown, the Bangladesh Financial Express reported.

"The government has decided to reduce the increased charges at CP within October after discussing properly with the port users," Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan said.

The government is working to ensure proper navigability of the rivers to transport goods across the country easily, he said.

He also said the government would provide necessary facilities, if the country's private sector comes forward to river dredging.
