2008-5-9

The world's leading marine technology firms, particularly in waterfront development and dredging, are vying for contracts in the lucrative Qatari maritime industry at Ship and Port+ Europort Maritime exhibition which was opened this week at the Doha Exhibition Centre by Minister of State Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani.

More than 70 regional and international firms are participating in the three-day international shipbuilding, port and marine technology exhibition, making it one of the largest maritime industry events of the region.

Qatar is planning to develop a 20 square kilometre deepwater port north of Mesaieed starting in 2014 with an annual capacity of two million TEU in its first phase, followed by two more equal phases to reach six million TEU in 2030.

The exhibition is being organised by Dubai-based Al Fajer Information and Services, Doha-based Al Fajer Alulla, Ahoy Rotterdam and Central Dredging Association (CEDA).
