Qatar's two minor ports will get major expansion soon. The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has already handed over the QR93m worth Al Khor port development and canal expansion project to the Customs and Ports General Authority (CPGA).
The expansion works of Ruwais Port is also expected to be launched in the coming days.
The works on Al Khor port includes drilling three basins and deepening the channel at 5000m x 60m x 3.5m.
The project will greatly help the boat owners and anglers, as the old port has become too overcrowded to accommodate all the vessels. A naval platform is constructed with a length of 485 meters comprising all facilities such as bracing for ships, wooden pillars and stairs, said Abdulaziz Al Daleel, project manager, department of buildings affairs, Ashghal
The project proposes to construct Naval floating docks along 430 meters for the use of fiber boats. In addition, there is a refueling dock with reservoirs and pumps. The work also includes construction of stores, tiled floor, toilets and refreshing, Mosque, restaurant, lightings and other infrastructure works.
Checkpoints of coastal and border security will be managed by the Ministry of Interior. The checkpoint has naval platforms and floating dock for registration of ships. The newly constructed ship repair workshop is to be handed over to the concerned engineering bureau.
The Ruwais Port project includes drilling two basins-one for the wooden commercial vessels and the second for the Coast Guard. It also consists of expansion of the existing fishing line, construction of a separate basin for fiber boats, drilling a channel at 2900mx100mx5m, naval platforms for commercial vessels, workshop for wooden vessel, rock wall protection, infrastructures, various offices, fishing boat workshop and godowns, and other external works. |
