Evergreen and Cosco Container Lines (Coscon) are to split two joint services-one connecting Asia with the Middle East and the other to Central America.
The Taiwanese and Chinese carriers will independently launch a weekly service to cover the China-to-Middle East Gulf route in early June to replace the jointly operated CPG loop.
Evergreen will deploy six 3,400 TEU vessels on its new CPG-2 route, while Coscon will deploy five 3,400 TEU ships on the CPG-1.
The lines expect to gain more capacity with independently operated loops and benefit from a wider range of port calls by keeping a slot-swap deal between the two services.
The two lines are also separating vessel-sharing arrangements between Asia and Panama. Evergreen is launching its own FPS service, while Coscon will continue on its own with the earlier jointly operated CUE loop.
The services will be operated with seven vessels of around 2,800 TEUs.
Evergreen has also unveiled a Taiwan-China-Australia Express (TCA) to replace its existing North Asia-China-Australia Express (NCA). The new service will effectively link East Asia with Australia for the first time.
