Indonesian cabotage needs booster loans after foreign ship ban

Indonesia's coastal shipping industry has requested more bank loans to support an expected rise in demand after the government banned foreign vessels from cabotage trade, reports the country's Sailings eNewsletter.

Sea transport director general Effendi Batubara said the shipping sector needs funds following the enactment of the 2005 presidential decree on "cabotage principle", which will be fully applied after 2011.
