A Fire temporarily halted the movement of containers at South Korea's second busiest container terminal at Gwangyang Port, after the January 1 blaze severed electricity supplies to cranes, reported Bloomberg.
A report by Yonhap News, citing an unidentified container port official, said that the fire had suspended the movement of 1,900 containers.
The fire broke out at 7.05am at an oyster works located under a bridge in the southern port city of Gwangyang. Kim Jeong Hyeon, an official at Gwangyang Fire Station said the flames ignited a power-transmission cable connected to a substation at the port.
The flames were extinguished in less than an hour, according to the fire services official, but not before destroying around 40 metres of cable, putting computer systems out of action and suspending the loading and unloading of container shipments.
Repair work by Korea Electric Power Corp. was expected to be completed by nightfall, and authorities were investigating the cause of the fire, which was not immediately known, according to Mr Kim.
