Malaysia's Northport at Port Klang has clinched the BrandLaureates SME Chapter Award 2007 in the Logistics-Ports Services category from the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation.
Northport managing director and CEO Basheer Hassan Abdul Kader said the award is a reflection of the port's commitment to its customers. "It is a fitting tribute to our efforts at Northport and I must stress the credit goes to all our stakeholders who worked together with a high level commitment to enable us to provide and offer only globally accepted standards in port services," he said.
The accolade was presented at a recent gala dinner held in Kuala Lumpur, attended by more than 70 other Malaysian small- and medium-sized enterprises which received the BrandLaureate SME Chapter Award 2007 in other categories.
Northport is said to enjoy the highest concentration of Malaysian shippers, including the largest number of SMEs engaged in the country's trade, according to a statement from Northport authorities.
The BrandLaureate-SMEs Chapter Award recognises the important role that SMEs contribute to the development of the nation and that of brand building. The award is intended to provide recipients with a platform to position their brands effectively and eventually become global brands as the selection committee bases its judgment on the strength of the brand and its performance.
Northport is connected to 300 ports worldwide, including major ports in China, India, intra-Asia, the US, Mediterranean and Europe.
