China's Tianjin port aims to handle 11 million TEUs and 400 million tonnes of cargo in 2010.

The port aims to become a container hub port serving Northeast Asia, the Middle East and West Asia in 2010. It also expects to become the largest port in Northern China by then.

The port's throughput is estimated to hit 300 million tonnes in mid-December 2007. It handled 240.3 million tonnes of cargo, including 5.22 million TEUs in the first nine months, rising 22.76 percent and 20.44 percent from a year ago, respectively.

The first phase of the Dongjiang Bonded Area of the port covers an area of 40,000 sq m and is going to start operations in mid-December and a 250,000-tonnage 19.5m deep channel will start operations at the end of this year.
